Meet Angela and Kari: A Search & Rescue Duo on a Mission

Angela Alexander has dedicated over 27 years to law enforcement—but it was one unforgettable day on a call that opened the door to her passion for K9 Search and Rescue. While on a call for a missing person, she witnessed a bloodhound track down the individual using just the scent from a hairbrush. The experience left a lasting impression. That very moment introduced her to the world of search and rescue dogs, and thanks to a handler who took Angela under her wing, she began her own journey—studying, training, and eventually getting her first bloodhound in 2006.

From there, her love for bloodhounds and their incredible abilities only grew. By 2009, she had submitted a proposal to her department to start a full-time bloodhound unit—the first of its kind in her agency. The idea became reality in 2012. Since then, Angela has continued to work with trailing and human remains detection (HRD) dogs both in law enforcement and Search and Rescue, combining her passion for service with her love for working dogs.

Meet the Pack: Kari & Joey

Angela currently has two dogs at home. Kari, her working bloodhound, is both a trailing dog and certified in human remains detection (HRD). She joined the police department in 2021 but has been with Angela since she was just eight weeks old. Kari is now nearly six years old and is not only a dedicated working dog—she’s also a dock diving champion, with a personal best of 21 feet, 10 inches!

Joey, a 13-year-old beagle-lab mix, found his way into Angela’s life in a more unexpected way—he simply appeared one morning in her kennel, malnourished and clearly worn down from life on the run. Despite old injuries, Joey has defied the odds and remains full of energy and takes on the job of protecting the family!

Fitness, Strength, & Fun Off-Duty

Kari is more than just a working dog—she’s an athlete too. After undergoing OCD (osteochondritis dissecans) surgery at just eight months old, she began physical therapy and has remained in a conditioning program ever since. Her routine includes regular physical therapy sessions, water treadmill work, regular treadmill runs at home, and more.

Outside of the job, Kari thrives in dock diving, where she’s been ranked the top-performing bloodhound for the past two years and is on track to claim that title again. She’s highly fit and energetic—traits not always typical of her breed—thanks to intentional physical care, conditioning, and intentional recovery.

Why Angela Chose MYOS

Angela first learned about MYOS Canine Muscle Formula through another Search and Rescue group. After doing her research, she decided to try it—initially out of concern that it might cause weight gain. To track the impact, Kari's rehab specialist measured her hindquarters before starting MYOS, and again three months later.

The results spoke for themselves. Kari had gained two centimeters of muscle in her hindquarters with no increase in weight. Her routine hadn’t changed—only the addition of MYOS. The supplement helped her stay lean and muscular, and even the orthopedic specialist who saw her after surgery was surprised by how well she’d healed.

Kari has remained on MYOS Veterinary Strength ever since. Angela credits the supplement with helping her recover faster from a recent psoas muscle injury—an injury that typically sidelines dogs for months. Kari was back to normal in just six weeks and never stopped working during that time.

Strong Bonds, Stronger Dogs

Angela Alexander’s career is rooted in service—to her community, her dogs, and fellow handlers. Whether she’s training for the next mission, diving off docks, or offering guidance to other K9 teams, she brings dedication, experience, and heart to everything she does.
