Sunny Days Ahead? Make Sure Your Dog Is Ready!

As temperatures rise, so do the risks for our furry companions. Dogs are more vulnerable to heat than we are, and overheating can happen fast—especially during walks, car rides, or playtime in the sun. Fortunately, with a few proactive steps, you can help your dog stay cool, comfortable, and safe all summer long!

1. Hydration is Key
Always make sure your dog has access to fresh, clean water. Bring a collapsible bowl on walks or hikes, and add ice cubes to their water bowl at home for a refreshing treat.

2. Skip the Midday Walk
Plan outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day—early morning or late evening. Hot pavement can burn paws, so try the “five-second rule”: if you can’t keep your hand on the ground for five seconds, it’s too hot for your dog. If your pup needs to go out during peak heat hours, keep it brief, stick to grassy or shaded areas, and avoid long walks. For apartment living, try finding a nearby shaded spot to bring them out in!

3. Never Leave Your Dog in the Car
Even with the windows cracked, a parked car can become dangerously hot within minutes. If you’re running errands, it’s best to leave your pup at home.

4. Provide Shade and Cool Resting Spots
Whether in the backyard or at the park, always make sure your dog has a shady place to retreat. You can also set up a kiddie pool or cooling mat for extra relief.

5. Watch for Signs of Overheating
Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or confusion are red flags. If you suspect heatstroke, move your dog to a cool area, offer water, and contact your vet immediately.

And don’t forget—healthy muscles and mobility play a big role in your dog’s overall comfort and activity level, especially during the hot months. MYOS Canine Muscle Formula helps support muscle health, so your pup can safely enjoy all the summer fun!
